Biography
John has participated in serving the church for nearly as long as he can remember. Starting at the age of just 5 or 6 when his mother would play piano or organ and John would sit at her side on the bench and turn pages. Jane taught him there was nothing more important than God in his life. Despite periods of rebellion, that faith was strong and true in John. John was baptized in their Methodist Church of Rose Hill in the fifth grade. In his teen years, he would share with Jane the custodial work to clean the church building before Sunday morning services.
After marrying Leah and joining an Evangelical Free Church start-up in Derby – CrossWinds Community Church – the opportunities for service increased: set-up and tear-down in the rented space, learning to run the sound board, and eventually becoming both the volunteer worship and high school youth leader, all while keeping his full-time job and family. At this church is where God gave John & Leah the calling to always serve together. A longing they still hold dear. John and Leah planned and lead weekly worship, youth discipleship lessons, and regular all-church or all-family youth campouts and adventures. Now, after moving out of Rose Hill and joining Hope Community Church in Andover, they continue to serve through relational mentoring and adult small groups, meeting regularly to focus on God’s Word and discuss real-life applications.
Now that John has joined SSM full-time as the Ministry Coordinator, God’s calling is taking him to new heights playing a major role in day to day operations. He is super excited to see just what it is that God has in store for SSM and their various ministries!
